Hoops Auction Privacy

What this site collects

Almost nothing, and this page says exactly what. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no password and no email address anywhere in this game — there is nothing to log in to, so there is nothing to leak.

What is stored on your device

A game in progress is saved in your browser's session storage so that reloading the page does not lose ten lots of decisions. It holds the board: two seat names the game itself chose, the players bought, and the prices paid.

Session storage is cleared by your browser when the tab closes. It never leaves your device and it is never sent anywhere.

What is stored on the server

Only when you play online. Opening or joining a room creates a temporary record holding the state of that auction — the players, the bids, the result. It contains no information about you: no name, no account, no address, nothing typed by a person except the six-character room code, which the site generates.

A finished room keeps its result for 30 minutes so that refreshing the page still shows the scoreline, then deletes everything it holds. A room nobody ever joins deletes itself after 30 minutes.

Analytics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and where visits came from. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device and does not build a profile of you. There is no way for it, or for me, to identify an individual visitor.

Advertising

This site carries advertising from Google AdSense to cover its running costs.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

Advertisements on this site are served inside an isolated frame that has no access to anything else on the page, including your saved game. That is a deliberate design decision, described in the project's security notes.

Player data and photographs

Player statistics are derived from publicly available historical basketball records. Player photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences, and each one carries its credit and licence on the card it appears on.

Your choices

Clearing your browser's storage for this site removes any saved game immediately. Blocking cookies or using an ad blocker will not stop the game working — nothing here depends on advertising or analytics loading.
